Born and raised in San Francisco, Mike Z joined his first “working” band in high school. Although he started as a trumpet player (which he gave up because he couldn’t talk, let alone sing, while playing), he switched to bass, and then guitar. Playing in Bay Area bands, he had the opportunity to back such acts as The Whispers, The Pointer Sisters, and Johnny Taylor. Bands he has performed with have shared the stage with acts such as Tower of Power, Santana, and Sly & the Family Stone. Over the last 15 years, Mike Z has taken a break from performing to raise a family. During that time he has focused on jazz guitar (but still loves the R&B and funky old soul music he grew up with). And… he’s back! Mike Z has been performing solo as a guitarist and vocalist throughout the North Bay. From coffeehouses and special events to wineries and wine bars, Mike Z brings just the right touch to any occasion… from easy listening background music to driving jazz and blues. As a singer, guitarist, and song writer, Mike Z has also been performing with EZ Kewl, a Sonoma based, 4 piece group that plays jazzy music. What Is Jazzy Music? Jazzy music is what you get when you put rockin’ rhythm ‘n blues and jazz together. Mixed in with their own versions of cover tunes are a few originals that make you want to say, “Hey, not bad.” This easy blend of cool music goes well with cocktails, any kind of beer, Northern California wine, a damn good cup of coffee, a spot of tea, a good woman, a bad man or just sitting back groovin’.
